The Philadelphia Phillies continue their visit to Wrigley Field with a Saturday bout with the Chicago Cubs.
The Philadelphia Phillies are trying to break out of a two week funk and remain in the National League East race. The Phillies had been in a bit of a funk recently and saw their chance at back to back wins disappear in a 6-2 defeat at Wrigley Field Friday afternoon. Nothing went the Phils way with starter Adam Morgan charged with all six runs on eight hits including three homers over four frames. Philadelphia had runners on ten hits and a pair of walks with Maikel Franco knocking in both runs with Odubel Herrera and Peter Bourjos scoring. Jerad Eickhoff will be on the hill for the Phillies Saturday for his second career meeting with the Cubs. Eickhoff comes off of a 5-0 win versus Atlanta with a five hit shutout over seven innings.

The Chicago Cubs have been the best team in baseball thus far and whether they can maintain the torrid pace is the question. The Cubs have been getting it done on the mound and at the plate and Friday’s win versus the visiting Phillies was no different with starter Jon Lester coming up big. Lester gave up both runs (one earned) on six hits through 6.1 innings to get the win. The Cubbies rapped out ten hits and walked two times with David Ross drilling a three run homer while Jorge Soler went deep and drove in two and Kris Bryant went solo. The Cubs hand the ball to Kyle Hendricks for game two of their series with Philadelphia. Hendricks was a hard luck 1-0 loser at San Francisco last time out with the lone run scored on three hits and three BB in 5.1 frames.
Chicago are 39-16 in their last 55 home games and are 43-19 in their last 62 overall while going 43-19 in their last 62 games on grass. The under is 5-2-1 in the last 8 meetings in Chicago. I just hope the Phillies win as a fan and that’s about all I can do here…
