The Texas Rangers host the Pittsburgh Pirates in interleague action on Saturday night.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are one of the hottest teams in the game and will have to be going forward to hang with the Cubs in the NL Central. The Pirates held up their end of the bargain with a 9-1 win at Texas Friday for their 9th win in eleven contests. Buccos starter Jon Niese was at the top of his game with a run scored on a homer over six frames to get the win. The Pirates posted 14 hits and two BB with Jung-ho Kang, Gregory Polanco, Starling Marte and Andrew McCutchen each smacking long balls. Pittsburgh turns to Juan Nicasio for the game two start at the Rangers. Nicasio has gone three straight outings without a quality start with eleven runs scored on 21 hits over 16.1 innings.

The Texas Rangers are second in the American League West but are playing well and keeping the pressure on. The Rangers struggled in all phases Friday but despite the defeat have still won five of seven overall. Texas starter Cole Hamels had a rare off night with six runs plated (five earned) on eight hits an a pair of base on balls through 4.2 innings. The Rangers logged ten hits and a walk with Adrian Beltre going 2-4 with a solo jack while Nomar Mazara and Bobby Wilson recorded two singles apiece. Yu Darvish toes the rubber for the first time since 2014 after having Tommy John surgery. In 2014 Darvish had made 22 starts and went 10-7 with a 3.06 ERA over 144.1 frames.
The under is 8-2 in Pittsburgh’s last 10 Saturday games and the over is 13-5-1 in their last 19 road games while going 28-11-1 in their last 40 on grass. Texas are 6-2 in their last 8 interleague games and the over is 7-3-1 in their last 11 home games while the Rangers are 43-20 in their last 63 home games. I have no idea what we’ll see from Darvish or how long he will be allowed to pitch so I’d be very careful here…
