Over at O.co Coliseum on Sunday, the Detroit Tigers and the Oakland Athletics will be finishing up their weekend series.
This will be the third game of the set. In Friday’s opener, Detroit secured a 4-1 victory. On Saturday, the A’s scored a total of nine runs in the sixth and seventh innings on the way to a big 12-3 win.

For Sunday’s matchup, the Tigers will be whipping out right-hander Mike Pelfrey. In his nine starts and 0-4 record this year, Pelfrey has put up a 5.55 ERA with a 1.81 WHIP in 47 innings of work. In a no-decision against the Phillies on Monday, Pelfrey gave up four runs on 11 hits in six innings.
The top-heavy Tigers lineup carries some capable swingers. Ian Kinsler has 61 hits with 41 runs, 10 homers and 24 RBI. Nick Castellanos has 57 hits with 23 runs, 10 homers and 32 RBI. Miguel Cabrera has also been hitting well on 56 hits, 28 runs, 11 home runs and 31 RBI. Castellanos and Cabrera combined to go 0-for-6 with one run on Saturday.
The A’s will be bringing out left-hander Rich Hill in Sunday’s game. In his 10 starts and 7-3 record this year, Hill carries a 2.18 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP in 57.2 innings. On Monday against the Mariners, Hill logged eight hits in eight innings for the shutout victory.
Oakland boasts a pretty deep lineup of hitters on their offense. Josh Reddick has 47 hits so far with 21 runs and 18 RBI. Reddick will be laid up on the DL (thumb) for another few weeks, though. Khris Davis has hit 42 times with 14 homers and 33 RBI. Marcus Semien has blasted 10 homers with 22 RBI but his BA is a wimpy .222. Semien had a solid day with two hits, a run and an RBI on Saturday.
The Tigers are 2-5 in their last seven game threes of a series, and 6-15 in their last 21 Sunday games.
As for the Athletics, they’re 2-8 in their last 10 game threes of a series and 1-4 in their last five Sunday games.
Hill is on a nice roll lately, so there’s really no reason to pick against the A’s here. Oakland should win handily.
