The Washington Nationals continue their series with the St. Louis Cardinals in Sunday action.
The St. Louis Cardinals have yet to find the groove in 2016 and the result is third in the National League Central. The Cardinals opened up their offense in a 9-4 rout of Washington for consecutive victories. Cards starter Adam Wainwright allowed all four runs on six hits including three homers over seven frames. The Redbirds totaled 12 hits and walked five times with Matt Holliday going solo and scoring twice. Wainwright and Matt Adams both knocked in two and Greg Garcia recorded an RBI and scored two times. The Cardinals are slated to start Michael Wacha to the bump to face the Nationals for the first time in 2016. Wacha has struggled the past three times out with 18 runs scored on 24 hits and eight BB over 12 innings.
USA TODAY Sports
The Washington Nationals have been right around .500 ball the last week and that has the looking at second in the National League East. I have said in the past that sometimes the Nationals don’t show up and Saturday was one of those times. Nats starter Gio Gonzalez was charged with six runs on six hits and four bases on balls through 4.2 innings to absorb the loss. Washington logged seven hits with Ryan Zimmerman going 4-4 with a homer, three RBI’s and two runs while Bryce Harper left the yard. Stephen Strasburg looks stay hot when he opposes the Cardinals for the second time in 2016. Strasburg has won three straight with six runs plated on 15 hits and six BB in 18.2 frames.
The over is 7-2 in the Cardinals last 9 overall and is 7-2 in their last 9 on grass while going 13-5 in their last 18 road games. The under is 5-2-1 in Washington’s last 8 Sunday games and the Nationals are 22-2 in Strasburg’s last 24 Sunday starts while going are 22-4 in Strasburg’s last 26 starts. The over is 4-1-3 in the last 8 meetings and St. Louis are 9-4 in the last 13 meetings in Washington. I like Strasburg and hopefully Washington shows up…
