The Minnesota Twins travel to the west coast to take on the Oakland Athletics.
The Minnesota Twins are so far back in the AL Central that they need an almost historic winning streak to be a factor. The Twins have won a few games in a row after defeating Seattle 5-4 on the road Sunday despite some shaky work from the pen. Twins starter Ricky Nolasco gave up a pair of runs on three hits over six frames before closer Kevin Jepsen allowed two runs in the 9th to make things scary. Minnesota totaled seven hits and walked twice with Robbie Grossman slamming a two run bomb while Miguel Sano and Joe Mauer went solo. The Twins hand the ball to Ervin Santana for the series opener at Oakland Monday. Santana comes off his worse start of the year with six runs plated on nine hits over 3.2 innings.

The Oakland Athletics need a prolonged hot streak to be a factor in the American League West and that hasn’t happened yet. The Athletics haven’t had a lot to cheer about in 2016 but defeated visiting Detroit 4-2 for their 4th win in eleven games on Sunday. A’s starter continued to throw well with both runs scoring on five hits and three free passes through 6.1 innings to up his record to 8-3. The Oakland offense consisted of nine hits and three walks with pinch hitter Billy Butler rapping a two run single while Danny Valencia went 3-4 and scored twice. The Athletics turn to Kendall Graveman for the game one start versus visiting Minnesota. Graveman comes off of a 6-5 defeat at Seattle with two runs plated on seven hits in 4.1 frames.
The over is 10-3-2 in Minnesota’s last 15 road games and the Twins are 7-20 in their last 27 road games while the over is 19-7-2 in their last 28 overall. Oakland are 2-7 in their last 9 overall and are 2-7 in their last 9 Monday games while going 2-7 in their last 9 games on grass. Minnesota are 3-13 in the last 16 meetings in Oakland and are 7-20 in the last 27 meetings. I don’t know about Minnesota being hot because they won a few games but I think they have a chance here…
