The Astros will be starting right-hander Lance McCullers on Tuesday. In his three starts and 1-1 record this year, McCullers has put up a 4.60 ERA with a 1.60 WHIP in 15.2 innings. On Thursday, McCullers gave up a solo homer with six walks but struck out 10 batters and allowed just one run against the Orioles.
Houston boasts a solid young group of hitters on their roster. Jose Altuve has 67 hits with nine homers and 41 runs. Altuve posted a triple and two runs with an RBI on Monday. George Springer has 58 hits with 11 homers and 29 RBI. Springer went 3-for-4 in Monday’s game. Carlos Correa has 49 hits with 23 runs and 27 RBI.
The Diamondbacks will be whipping out left-hander Patrick Corbin for Tuesday’s game. In his 10 starts and 2-4 record this year, Corbin has posted a 4.21 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP in 62 innings. In his last appearance Thursday against the Pirates, Corbin took the loss after giving up four earned in 5.2 innings.
There are some great hitters on the Arizona offense as well. Jean Segura holds 66 hits with 25 RBI and 27 runs. Brandon Drury has 50 hits with 18 runs and 18 RBI. Paul Goldschmidt has 10 homers with 33 RBI and 27 runs alongside 46 hits. Goldschmidt managed a solo homer on Monday.
The Astros are 4-1 in their last five game twos of a series, but 2-10 in McCullers’ last 12 road starts.
As for the Diamondbacks, they’re 8-3 in their last 11 Tuesday games and 2-5 in Corbin’s last seven starts.
I’m not crazy about either pitcher here, but I like McCullers and the Astros a little better. I’ll take Houston for the win in this one.
