Up at Coors Field on Tuesday, the Cincinnati Reds and the Colorado Rockies will be picking up their series once again.
In Monday’s opener, the Reds scored five runs in the fourth inning on the way to an 11-8 win. The Rockies showed some life in the bottom of the ninth, but couldn’t bridge the gap.
USA TODAY Sports
For Tuesday, the Reds will be rolling with right-hander Jon Moscot. In his three starts and 0-2 record this year, Moscot has put up a 4.02 ERA with a 1.40 WHIP in 15.2 innings. It’s been a while (April 27) since Moscot has pitched, as he’s coming off the DL thanks to a shoulder injury.
Cincinnati hasn’t been too even on offense this year, but there are some stars here. Zack Cozart has 47 hits with 22 runs to his credit. Cozart popped a homer on Monday in a three-hit outing. Brandon Phillips has 45 hits with 22 runs and 23 RBI. Adam Duvall leads the team on 13 homers with 29 RBI, 42 hits and 24 runs. Duvall slapped two homers on Monday.
The Rockies will be countering with right-hander Jon Gray on Tuesday. In seven starts and a 2-2 record this year, Gray has a 5.95 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP in 39.1 total innings of work. On Thursday, Gray held Boston to two runs in 7.1 innings for a victory.
Colorado definitely has some punch at the plate. Carlos Gonzalez has 59 hits with 34 runs and 20 RBI. Gonzalez put up a homer on Monday. Nolan Arenado has 54 hits with 34 runs, 14 homers and 39 RBI. Arenado got the day off Monday. Trevor Story has 53 hits with 14 homers and 36 RBI.
The Reds are 1-5 in their last six game twos of a series, and 0-4 in their last four Tuesday games.
As for the Rockies, they’re 16-35 in their last 51 Tuesday games and 18-46 in their last 64 game twos of a series.
I’m not thrilled with Moscot’s chances coming off the DL and straight to Coors, so I’ll take the Rockies and Gray in this one.
