Over at O.co Coliseum in Oakland on Tuesday, the Minnesota Twins and the Oakland Athletics will be tangling once again.
In Monday’s game one opener, the A’s edged out the Twins 3-2, despite getting out-hit 8-7 on the day.
USA TODAY Sports
The Twins will be rolling out right-hander Tyler Duffey for Tuesday’s game. In his six starts and 2-3 record this season, Duffey has managed a 3.93 ERA with a 1.31 WHIP over 36.2 innings overall. On Wednesday when we last saw him, Duffey posted five earned in 6.2 innings but beat the Royals.
The top end of the Twins order is pretty stacked. Eduardo Nunez leads the charge on 52 hits with 21 runs and 20 RBI. Joe Mauer has 50 hits with 18 RBI and 18 runs. Mauer came up empty in Monday’s game. Miguel Sano has 42 hits with a team-high 11 homers, 26 RBI and 25 runs. Sano bagged a hit and a run on Monday.
LHP Eric Surkamp will be taking the mound for the A’s on Tuesday. Over his five games and 0-3 record this season, Surkamp has posted a 6.55 ERA with a 1.95 WHIP in 22 innings. Surkamp will be coming back out of the minors for this start, as Oakland is dealing with a plethora of injuries to their starting pitchers.
The Athletics aren’t the most consistent offense in the world, but they’ve got some interesting stars on their roster. Josh Reddick leads the way on 47 hits with 21 runs and 18 RBI. Reddick is currently out of action with a thumb injury, however. Khris Davis has managed 44 hits with a team-high 14 homers alongside 35 RBI. Danny Valencia has 21 runs with 41 hits, seven homers and 18 RBI.
The Twins are 2-7 in their last nine game twos of a series, and 0-4 in their last four Tuesday games.
Oakland, meanwhile, is 3-7 in their last 10 Tuesday games, and 2-6 in their last eight game twos of a series.
I can’t trust Surkamp for much of anything this season, so I’ll take the Twins to get a victory in this one.
