Down at Turner Field on Wednesday, the San Francisco Giants and the Atlanta Braves will be continuing their series.
This will be the third of a four-game set. On Monday in the opener, the Braves secured a 5-3 victory. In Tuesday’s game, the Giants scored three times in the eighth inning on the way to a 4-0 shutout. The Braves could muster just one hit in that one.
USA TODAY Sports
For Wednesday’s matchup, it’s looking like the Giants will be starting right-hander Albert Suarez. In five appearances this year (no starts) and a 1-1 record, Suarez holds a 2.25 ERA with a 1.00 WHIP. Suarez will be spot-starting here in relief of an injured Matt Cain (hamstring).
The Giants have some notable names in their batting order. Hunter Pence has 54 hits with 36 RBI and 27 runs. Denard Span has 54 hits with 22 runs and 21 RBI. Span had three of San Francisco’s five hits on Tuesday with a pair of RBI. Brandon Belt is right there as well with 50 hits, 26 runs and 25 RBI.
The Braves will be rolling out right-hander Williams Perez on Wednesday. In his seven games and 2-1 record this year, Perez has a 3.72 ERA with a 1.16 WHIP in 38.2 innings. In six innings against the Marlins on Friday, Perez gave up two runs in a no-decision.
The Atlanta batting order leaves something to be desired, but there are some bright spots here. Freddie Freeman has 48 hits with 15 RBI and 24 runs. Nick Markakis is right there as well on 45 hits with 29 RBI. Freeman and Markakis combined to go 0-for-6 on Tuesday. Jeff Francoeur has come on lately with 31 hits, 11 runs and 14 RBI.
The Giants are 7-0 in their last seven game threes of a series, and 4-1 in their last five Wednesday games.
As for the Braves, they’re 19-40 in their last 59 game threes of a series, and 5-15 in their last 20 Wednesday games.
There’s not a whole lot to like about this game, but I’ll give a slight edge to the Giants based on offense.
