The Washington Nationals look to stretch their lead in the NL East with a win at the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Washington Nationals look like the team to beat in the National League East at times and ordinary at other times. The Nationals looked like the former in beating the Phillies 5-1 Tuesday and picking up a game on the Mets in the process. Nats starter Joe Ross improved t 5-4 with the lone run plated on three hits and a pair of BB over seven frames. The Nationals mustered eight hits and walked twice with Jason Werth, Stephen Drew, Danny Espinosa and Daniel Murphy smacking long balls. The Nationals turn to Max Scherzer on the hill to face the Phillies for the third time. Scherzer did not look good in a 6-2 loss to St. Louis with five runs given up on three hits and four BB over seven innings.

The Philadelphia Phillies were making the National League East a three team race a few short weeks ago but have slowed since. The Phillies slide continued Tuesday night with another loss leaving the team with losses in nine of eleven. Phils starter Aaron Nola was a hard luck loser with only two runs given up on a pair of solo jacks through six innings before Colton Murray served up a pair of long balls and three runs in the 9th. Philadelphia totaled four hits and walked twice with Cesar Hernandez tripling in David Lough. Philadelphia is slated to start Adam Morgan against the Nationals for the first career meeting. Morgan comes off of a 6-2 loss at Wrigley Field with six runs allowed on eight hits including three homers in four frames.
The under is 7-2-1 in Washington’s last 10 Wednesday games and the Nationals are 75-36 in their last 111 Wednesday games while going 7-3 in Scherzer’s last 10 road starts. The under is 5-2-1 in Morgan’s last 8 on grass and is 5-2-1 in Morgan’s last 8 starts overall. I’m hoping the Phils win as a fan but I’m backing Washington….
