The Seattle Mariners continue their interleague series at the San Diego Padres on Wednesday.
The Seattle Mariners are second in the American League West but have to avoid losing streaks to hang with Texas. The Mariners did their part Tuesday with a 16-4 rout of the Padres for back to back wins. M’s starter Hisashi Iwakuma allowed all four runs on five hits including three homers over seven frames to pick up the win. Seattle amassed 14 hits and ten walks with Seth Smith going deep twice and driving in four with Kyle Seager also leaving the yard and knocking in four. Adam Lind homered and drove in three while Franklin Guitierrez drilled a two run bomb. The Mariners look for a win from ace Felix Hernandez at San Diego on Wednesday. Hernandez comes off a rare poor outing with six runs plated on eight hits in a 7-2 loss to Minnesota.

The San Diego Padres are having difficult time getting their arms and bats pointed in the same direction the past few weeks. That didn’t happen Tuesday and the Padres were saddled with defeats in eight of eleven. SD starter James Shields was charged with ten runs on eight hits and four BB through 2.2 frames with Luis Perdomo allowing six runs on six hits including three homers over two innings. The Padres couldn’t keep up on a seven hit attack that featured long balls from Hector Sanchez, Travis Jankowski and Matt Kemp. Christian Friedrich toes the rubber for the 4th time when he opposes the visiting Mariners. Friedrich comes off of a 10-3 victory at Arizona with a three hit shutout over seven frames.
Seattle are 7-1 in their last 8 interleague road games and are 18-6 in their last 24 road games while going 6-2 in their last 8 Wednesday games. San Diego are 1-7 in their last 8 overall and are 1-7 in their last 8 games on grass while going 2-6 in their last 8 home games. The under is 5-2-2 in the last 9 meetings and Seattle are 7-3 in Hernandez’s last 10 starts versus San Diego. If Hernandez receives some support I have to go with him…
