Thursday evening at Oriole Park, the Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles will be wrapping up their series this week.
This will be game four of the set. The Red Sox won the first two games by a combined 13-4. On Wednesday, the two teams combined for a whopping 15 runs in the first three innings alone, on the way to a 13-9 Orioles victory.

For Thursday’s matchup, the Red Sox will be bringing out right-hander Rick Porcello in the starting role. Over his 10 games and 7-2 record this season, Porcello has managed a 3.68 ERA with a 1.10 WHIP across 63.2 total innings of work.
The notorious Boston lineup has been great at the plate recently. Xander Bogaerts has already slapped 77 hits with 42 runs and 30 RBI. Mookie Betts is dialed in on 67 hits with 51 runs and 25 homers with 42 RBI. Betts smacked a pair of solo shots on Wednesday. David Ortiz has posted 15 homers already with 48 RBI so far. Ortiz bagged a solo homer in Wednesday’s game.
The Orioles are scheduled to be starting right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez on Thursday. In 10 starts and a 2-6 record this year, Jimenez has struggled on a 6.36 ERA and a 1.87 WHIP in 52.1 innings. On Saturday against the Indians, Jimenez was wrecked for six runs (three earned) in just 1.2 innings.
The Baltimore hitters are no slouches at the plate, either. Manny Machado has 65 hits with 38 runs and 31 RBI to his credit. Mark Trumbo has put up 57 hits with 29 runs, 16 homers and 39 RBI. Chris Davis has 10 home runs, 34 RBI and 28 RBI with a .220 BA. Davis worked four walks with three runs in Wednesday’s game.
The Red Sox are 2-5 in their last seven Thursday games, and 1-5 in their last six game fours of a series.
Meanwhile, the Orioles are 8-3 in their last 11 Thursday games and 1-5 in their last six game fours of a series.
With the way Jimenez has been getting shelled lately, I can’t in good conscience pick the Orioles here. I’ll take the Red Sox for the victory.
