In MLB action on Friday, the New York Mets and the Miami Marlins will be kicking off their weekend series at Marlins Park.
The Mets just finished up a three-game set with the White Sox this week. New York won the first game 1-0, but dropped the final two.
As for the Marlins, they’re coming off a series with the Pirates. Miami was blown out 10-0 in the opener before coming back for wins on Tuesday and Wednesday. In Thursday’s finale, the Marlins eked out a 12-inning, walk-off win 4-3.

For Friday’s game, the Mets are scheduled to be rolling out right-hander Noah Syndergaard. Over 11 games (10 starts) and a 5-2 record this year, Syndergaard has a 1.84 ERA with a 0.96 WHIP in 63.2 innings. On Saturday, Syndergaard was tossed for throwing at Chase Utley and could face an upcoming suspension.
The Mets have some pretty solid hitters at the top end of their lineup. Asdrubal Cabrera leads the way on 52 hits with 16 runs and 18 RBI. Neil Walker is close behind on 51 hits with 25 RBI and 23 runs. Yoenis Cespedes leads the team in homers (15), RBI (37) and runs (31) and also has 47 hits to his credit this year.
The Marlins will be rolling out right-hander Tom Koehler for Friday’s game. In his 10 starts and 3-5 record this year, Koehler has come up with a 4.50 ERA and a 1.65 WHIP in 54 innings of work. On Sunday when we last saw him, Koehler posted seven innings of two-run ball for a win against the Braves.
In the Miami lineup, we’ve got several exciting young hitters. Marcel Ozuna has 65 hits with 34 runs, 10 homers and 27 RBI. Martin Prado has 62 hits with 15 RBI and 18 runs. Giancarlo Stanton has a team-high 12 homers with 27 RBI and 21 runs, but is struggling on a .213 BA this year. Stanton was 1-for-3 with an RBI on Thursday.
The Mets are 11-2 in their last 13 Friday games, and 37-16 in their last 53 game ones of a series.
Meanwhile, the Marlins are 2-5 in their last seven Friday games, and 1-5 in Koehler’s last six starts.
Given the pitching matchup, I like the Mets here, but it should be a pretty close game and an entertaining one to watch if you're a fan.
