It’s time for Saturday baseball at historic Fenway Park, as the Toronto Blue Jays and the Boston Red Sox renew their ever-developing rivalry.
This will be game two of the weekend set. In Friday’s opener, the Blue Jays snagged a 5-2 win, out-hitting Boston 7-5 on the evening.

For Saturday’s game, the Blue Jays will be rolling with right-hander Marcus Stroman. Over 11 starts and a 5-1 record this season, Stroman has tabulated a 4.46 ERA with a 1.25 WHIP in 74.2 innings of work. Last Saturday against these same Red Sox, Stroman got pummeled with seven runs in 5.1 innings for a no-decision.
The Toronto lineup is one of the most talented in the league, but hasn’t quite put everything together as a whole just yet. Josh Donaldson has 53 hits with 30 RBI, 13 homers and 42 runs. Edwin Encarnacion has 54 hits with 24 runs, 11 homers and 44 RBI. Encarnacion slapped a 2-run homer on Friday. Jose Bautista holds 46 hits with 33 runs, 11 homers and 37 RBI.
Over on the Red Sox side, we’ll be seeing right-hander Steven Wright take the mound. In his 10 starts and 5-4 record thus far, Wright holds a 2.45 ERA with a 1.09 WHIP in 69.2 innings. Wright went the distance on Monday against the Orioles, tossing a complete-game win on two runs.
The Boston batters are no slouches at the plate, either. Xander Bogaerts has a team-high 79 hits with 44 runs and 33 RBI. Dustin Pedroia has 70 hits with 39 runs and 26 RBI. Mookie Betts has blasted 14 homers with 43 RBI, 53 runs and 69 total hits. Bogaerts, Betts and Pedroia went a combined 2-for-12 on Friday with a pair of runs.
The Blue Jays are 4-0 in their last four game twos of a series, and 2-8 in their last 10 Saturday games.
Meanwhile, the Red Sox are 10-4 in their last 14 Saturday games, and 5-2 in Wright’s last seven starts on four days’ rest.
I think Stroman will bounce back from his bad start his last time out, but I still like Wright and the Red Sox offense for a victory here.
