Down at Marlins Park on Saturday, the New York Mets and the Miami Marlins will be picking up their series once again.
This will be game two of the weekend set. In Friday’s opener, the Mets were in control, cruising to a 6-2 victory. New York out-hit Miami 10-7 in that matchup.

For Saturday’s game, the Mets will be rolling with everyone’s favorite portly pitcher Bartolo Colon. In his 11 games (10 starts) and 4-3 record this year, Colon holds a 3.39 ERA with a 1.23 WHIP in 61 innings. On Sunday, Colon pitched well against the Dodgers, holding L.A. to two runs on seven hits in six innings.
The New York batting order features several notable names. Asdrubal Cabrera heads things up with 53 hits and 17 runs. Cabrera slapped a solo homer on Friday. Neil Walker has posted 52 hits with 13 homers, 25 RBI and 23 runs. Yoenis Cespedes is having a nice year with 15 homers, 37 RBI and 32 runs.
As for the Marlins, we’ll be seeing lefty Justin Nicolino take the mound on Saturday. In his seven games and 2-3 record this year, Nicolino holds a 4.50 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP in 40 innings. On Monday against the Pirates, Nicolino gave up three runs in five innings for a loss.
The Miami offense possesses some enticing young hitters. Marcel Ozuna has 66 hits with 35 runs and 29 RBI so far. Ozuna managed a home run and two RBI on Friday. Martin Prado has 63 hits with 19 runs and 15 RBI. Giancarlo Stanton has a team-high 12 homers with 27 RBI but just a .207 BA. Stanton went 0-for-4 in Friday’s game.
The Mets are 1-8 in their last nine game twos of a series, and 7-3 in Colon’s last 10 road starts.
Meanwhile, the Marlins are 2-6 in their last eight game twos of a series, and 2-6 in Nicolino’s last eight home starts.
I like Colon to continue his solid run here, so I’ll take the Mets for the victory. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the over come in, however.
