The Atlanta Braves look to shake off a loss on the road to the Dodgers as they head south to face off against the San Diego Padres on Monday.
The Braves head into Petco Park on Monday night looking to snap out of their ugly losing ways but things don’t get any easier as they face off against Christian Friedrich who has been very strong this season and should have a field day against the light hitting Braves. Atlanta will counter with Williams Perez though who has been pretty decent in his own right this season and has picked up the slack of the likes of Julio Teheran who hasn’t lived up to ace status this season and is a big reason why the Braves are sitting in last place in the NL East. Atlanta is a paltry 16-40 this season and are on pace for a terrible season, and while many expected this to transpire it certainly isn’t any easier for Peach State baseball fans as they have grown accustomed to the Braves being among baseball’s giants.

The Padres meanwhile have responded nicely after getting called out by ownership, and the message has clearly been sent as they dealt James Shields to the Chicago White Sox and nobody on the roster right now is safe. San Diego is in a tough spot in the NL West as they have to contend with the Giants and Dodgers on a yearly basis and they certainly don’t have the legs to keep up this season but against the Braves they certainly considered favourites, as is usually the case with anyone against Atlanta.
The Braves are 6-1 in Perez’ last seven starts, 1-6 in their last seven Monday starts, and 0-4 int heir last four against a team with a losing record while the Padres are 5-2 in their last seven home games, 4-9 in their last 13 overall, and 2-5 in their last seven against the NL East. However, the Padres do match up well with Atlanta and with Friedrich pitching I think they have the edge here and get a win at home.
