The Houston Astros look to make up ground in the AL West when they visit the Texas Rangers.
The Houston Astros are playing their best baseball of the season and have to just to keep pace with the Rangers. The Astros continued to play well as a 5-2 win versus visiting Oakland was their 9th in eleven contests. Stros starter Lance McCullers improved to 3-1 with both runs plated over seven frames while whiffing nine. Houston totaled nine hits and walked six times with Evan Gattis and Carlos Gomez smacking solo jacks while Gomez scored twice. The Astros kick off the series at the Rangers Monday with Mike Fiers on the bump. Fiers did not get a decision in a 5-4 win versus Arizona where he gave up a run on four hits and two BB over six innings.

The Texas Rangers have been tough to handle the past few weeks and have managed to extend their lead in the AL West. The surging Rangers refuse to yield to anybody in the division thanks to wins in nine of eleven after squeezing past the Mariners 3-2 on Sunday. Texas starter Derek Holland upped his record to 5-4 with both runs allowed on three hits and a pair of bases on balls through seven innings. The Rangers mustered five hits and a walk with Jurickson Profar, Jared Hoying and Bobby Wilson driving in runs. The Rangers are slated to send out Colby Lewis to face the Astros for the second time this year. Lewis comes off of a 7-3 win at Cleveland where he tossed a two hit shutout over six frames.
Houston are 7-1 in their last 8 overall and are 7-1 in their last 8 games on grass while the over is 21-8 in their last 29 road games. Texas are 47-21 in their last 68 home games and the over is 43-16-3 in Lewis' last 62 home starts. Houston are 14-41 in the last 55 meetings in Texas and are 24-63 in the last 87 meetings. Not a tremendous difference but the home team at great odds is the way I’m going…
