The Line: New York Yankees / Los Angeles Angels --- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The New York Yankees look for their second win in as many nights as they continue their series at home with the Los Angeles Angels.
The Angels took an early lead on Masahiro Tanaka yesterday but the big bats of the Yankees woke up just in time to give them a 5-2 victory over the Halos in the series opener last night and now the Angels have to go back to the drawing board for Tuesday night’s show down as they send David Huff to the mound to go up against Michael Pineda. Los Angeles heads into Tuesday night’s game with a 26-31 record and are just 5-5 in their last 10 contests and despite having the game’s bets player on their roster who is a perennial MVP candidate, the Halos are in a rut and are not likely to make a push at the playoffs this season.

The Yankees meanwhile have struggled to score runs this season and they too could be on the outs when it comes to the American League playoffs as they trail the Orioles, Red Sox, and Blue Jays in the division and will likely end up selling some pieces off before the trade deadline. New York will look to get Michael Pineda going tonight as he has struggled mightily this season to the tune of a 2-6 record and a 6.41 ERA but when he is on he is one of the better pitchers in the AL and is always up there in terms of strikeouts. The Yanks need to keep rolling here if they’re going to keep pace in the competitive AL East and a matchup again with the Angels could be the best recipe for them right now.
Los Angeles is 1-9 in their last 10 against the AL East, 1-4 in their last five Tuesday games and 1-6 in their last seven road games against a team with a losing record while the Yanks are 5-0 in their last five against the AL West, 4-1 in their last five against a team with a losing record, and 3-7 in Pineda’s last 10 starts. New York got the best of the Angels last night and I expect that to continue again here as Pineda finds his form.
