The St. Louis Cardinals and the rival Cincinnati Reds take the field at Great American Ball Park on Wednesday.
The St. Louis Cardinals have a winning record yet don’t seem as fearsome as in season’s past. The Cardinals chance at a three game winning streak go by the wayside in a 7-6 defeat at Cincinnati where the pitching struggled throughout. Cards starter Mike Leake was charged with six runs on ten hits over 6.1 frames before Kevin Siegrist served up a solo homer in the 9th to absorb the loss. St. Louis totaled ten hits and walked twice with Matt Carpenter and Jhonny Peralta driving in two runs apiece. Left hander Jaime Garcia looks for consistency when he gets the ball on Wednesday night versus the Reds. Garcia was a 3-1 loser last time out at Milwaukee with two runs scored on five hits and three BB over five innings.

The Cincinnati Reds are moving towards youth and it has hurt them in the win column although they can be dangerous. The Reds have suddenly gotten hot with wins in five of six after downing the visiting Cardinals on Tuesday night. Cinci starter John Lamb gave up three runs (one earned) through 7.1 innings with Blake Wood and Tony Cingrani giving up three. The Reds pounded out 12 hits and walked twice with Joey Votto and Billy Hamilton going solo while Adam Duvall went 2-4 with a homer and three RBI’s. Alfredo Simon will be shooting for back to back victories when he opposes St. Louis on Wednesday. Simon comes off of an 11-4 romp at Colorado where he allowed all four runs on five hits including three homers in seven frames.
The over is 12-5 in the Cardinals last 17 overall and is 12-5 in their last 17 on grass while going 16-7 in St. Louis last 23 road games. Cincinnati are 2-7 in their last 9 home games and the over is 10-4-1 in their last 15 Wednesday games while the Reds are 22-50 in their last 72 overall. The under is 13-5 in the last 18 meetings. I don’t completely trust Garcia so I’ll probably look elsewhere…
