On Wednesday at Globe Life Park, the Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers will be continuing their series this week.
This will be the third of a four-game set. On Monday, the Rangers eked out a 6-5 victory. In Tuesday’s matchup, Texas pulled out another one-run win, this time 4-3.

For Wednesday’s game, the Astros will be rolling with right-hander Doug Fister. In his 11 starts and 5-3 mark this year, Fister has put together a 3.51 ERA with a 1.26 WHIP in 66.2 innings total. On Friday against the A’s, Fister was great in six scoreless innings.
When they’re clicking, the Houston offense is as good as almost anyone in the league. Jose Altuve has shot out to a .332 BA with 79 hits, 45 runs, 10 homers and 34 RBI. George Springer is right there as well on 68 hits, 39 runs, 13 homers and 36 RBI. Carlos Correa is getting in on the action with 59 hits, 28 runs and 32 RBI. Altuve, Springer and Correa combined to go 0-for-9 on Tuesday.
The Rangers will be going with right-hander Yu Darvish on Wednesday. In two starts (both wins) this year, Darvish has a 3.37 ERA with a 1.03 WHIP in 10.2 innings. On Friday against the Mariners, Darvish came back down to earth a bit on three runs across 5.2 innings.
At the plate, the Rangers have a pretty impressive crew as well. Ian Desmond leads the team with 71 hits, 43 runs and 37 RBI. Nomar Mazara has 61 hits for a .318 BA with 27 runs and 27 RBI. Adrian Beltre has 10 homers, 40 RBI, 60 hits and 30 runs thus far.
The Astros are 4-0 in their last four game threes of a series, and 6-0 in their last six Wednesday games. Houston is also 4-0 in Fister’s last four starts against the American League West, and 7-0 in Fister’s last seven starts overall.
As for the Rangers, they’re 4-1 in their last five game threes of a series, and 7-0 in their last seven against the American League West. Texas is also 6-1 in Darvish’s last seven home starts and 4-1 in Darvish’s last five home starts against a team with a losing record.
Something’s got to give here, and I don’t think it will be on the mound. I like Fister and the Astros just a little bit better at the moment, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see the under come in.
