The Cincinnati Reds and the Oakland Athletics butt heads at Great American Ball Park on Saturday.
The Oakland Athletics have a chance to reach .500 but have been struggling to get going. The Athletics struggles continued in a 2-1 loss at Great American Ball Park Friday for defeat number six in a row. A’s starter Sonny Gray gave up both runs on five hits over 7.2 frames to absorb the loss. Oakland totaled nine hits and four walks with Stephen Vogt supplying the scoring with his 5th homer of the season while Vogt, Coco Crisp and Yonder Alonso logged two hits apiece. Kendall Graveman is slated to be on the bump Saturday to oppose the Reds for the first time in his career. Graveman is coming off of a 6-5 loss at Houston with all five runs plated on seven hits over 4.1 innings.

The Cincinnati Reds have proven to be dangerous at times but their record says they haven’t been very consistent. The Reds had dropped three of four before squeezing by the visiting Athletics Friday night in the series opener. Cinci starter Anthony DeSclafani gave up the lone run on eight hits and a trio of BB through six innings while the bats managed five hits and walked once. Adam Duvall knocked in a run and scored with Brandon Phillips also scoring. Cincinnati goes with Daniel Straily on the hill for his first career meeting with the Athletics. Strailey is coming off of a 6-3 win versus Washington where he gave up two runs on two hits and a pair of BB in seven frames.
Oakland are 5-18 in their last 23 road games and the over is 17-7-1 in their last 25 road games while the Athletics are 3-14 in Graveman’s last 17 starts on grass. Cincinnati are 3-9 in their last 12 home games and the over is 6-2 in their last 8 interleague games while the Reds are 23-52 in their last 75 overall. The under is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings. I sort of like Strailey so I’ll back the Reds…
