The Rangers survived some shaky work out of the pen to defeat the Mariners 6-4 Sunday for their 8th win in eleven contests. Texas starter Cole Hamels improved to 6-1 with a run scored over seven frames with Tony Barnette and Sam Dyson allowing three runs. Texas mustered seven hits and six walks with Mitch Moreland slamming a two run homer. Elvis Andrus went 3-4 with two runs driven in and two scored while Ian Desmond knocked in two more.

The Oakland Athletics need a reversal of fortunes to get back in the American League West race. The Athletics snapped a seven game slide with a 6-1 victory at Cincinnati on Sunday behind solid hitting and pitching. A’s starter Kendall Graveman was charged with the lone run on seven hits and a walk over four frames with four relievers keeping the Reds off the scoreboard. Oakland pounded out 15 hits and walked twice with Danny Valencia, Jake Smolinski and Marcus Semien smacking long balls. Rookie left hander Sean Manaea gets the ball to open the series on the hill versus visiting Texas. Manaea comes off of a 5-4 defeat at Milwaukee with all five runs scoring on six hits including two homers in seven frames.
