The Houston Astros head to Bush Stadium for some interleague action versus the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Houston Astros were red hot a week or so ago but have since slowed which isn’t a good thing with The Rangers threatening to pull away in the American League West. The Astros have dropped five of seven following a 5-0 loss at Tampa Bay where nothing went favorably. Stros starter Dallas Keuchel still hasn’t found the groove with all five runs allowed (four earned) on five hits and a pair of bases on balls over five frames which dropped him to 3-9. The Astros were held to a pair of singles from Jose Altuve while walking twice. Houston is slated to send Doug Fister to the bump to open the series at Busch Stadium. Fister comes off a 3-1 win at the Rangers where he gave up the lone rub on seven hits over six innings.

The St. Louis have suddenly gotten hot and their reward is taking over second in the National League Central. The Cardinals have won seven of eight after downing Pittsburgh 8-3 on the road Sunday. Redbirds starter Mike Leake improved to 5-4 with all three runs allowed (two earned) on six hits through seven innings. St. Louis pounded out 14 hits and walked twice with Randal Grichuk going solo while Matt Holliday went 3-4 with a homer, two RBI’s and two runs. Jaime Garcia toes the rubber against the visiting Astros for the first time since 2012. Garcia was hit hard last time out in a 12-7 win at Cincinnati with five runs allowed on 13 hits in 4.2 frames (ND).
Houston are 20-7 in their last 27 interleague games and are 12-5 in their last 17 games on grass and are 8-0 in Fister’s last 8 starts. The over is 8-2 in the Cardinals last 10 home games and the under is 15-5-2 in their last 22 interleague games while the over is 6-2 in their last 8 on grass. St. Louis are 2-7 in Garcia’s last 9 starts versus Houston and the Astros are 9-24 in the last 33 meetings. Everytime I go with Garcia I lose and everytime I go against Fister I lose so I’m staying away…
