The Cincinnati Reds head to Minute Maid Park to open an interleague series with the Houston Astros.
The Cincinnati Reds are going through the pains of rebuilding which means there are highs and lows and more of the latter. It was the latter Thursday in a 7-2 defeat at Atlanta in which Cincy led 2-0 before the pitching and hitting went south with starter Daniel Straily allowing six runs on seven hits and a trio od BB over 4.1 frames to fall to 4-3. Cincinnati totaled eight hits and four walks with Adam Duvall leaving the yard while Brandon Phillips singled in Zack Cozart. Cincinnati runs out John Lamb to the hill on Friday for his first career meeting versus Houston. Lamb absorbed a 6-1 loss to Oakland last time out with four runs scored on seven hits including two homers over four innings.

The Houston Astros are simply trying to regain their form of a season ago but inconsistency has hindered them. The Astros have taken a few positive steps with wins in three of four after rallying past St. Louis in a 4-1 victory on Wednesday. George Springer connected on a two run homer in the 8th to erase a 1-0 deficit while Carlos Gomez knocked in two runs in the 9th. Lance McCullers takes the hill in game one of the series against Cincinnati who he sees for the first time. McCullers comes off a 4-3 defeat at Tampa Bay with all four runs plated on seven hits and four BB in six frames.

The under is 8-0 in Houston’s last 8 overall and the Astros are 7-1 in their last 8 home games while going 22-7 in their last 29 interleague games. Cincinnati are 23-9 in the last 32 meetings in Houston and are 41-17 in the last 58 meetings.
