The Cleveland Indians look to continue their winning ways as they welcome in the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday who got thumped at home by the San Francisco Giants last night.
The Rays head into Cleveland looking to get back in the win column and will turn to Drew Smyly to do so as the flame thrower looks to improve on his tough start to the season but he and Rays will have to deal with Josh Tomlin who continues to defy the odds and grab wins. Tampa doesn’t have a great roster and were baking on their rotation to be their saving grace this season, but thanks to a struggle of a year from Chris Archer and some inconsistencies across the board the Rays are in dead last in the AL East and have a ton of work to do if they’re going to play their way back into the playoff race. Smyly is 2-7 with a 4.75 ERA this season while Tomlin is 8-1 with a 3.27 mark and is a big reason why the Tribe are looking very good in the AL Central this year.

The Indians have surprised a lot of people with how well they have performed to date and if they get Michael Brantley back soon they will be even better as they currently lead the AL Central standings. Cleveland has some nice offensive weapons and a great starting rotation that includes Tomlin as their number four and thanks to his spot in the rotation behind Carrasco, Salazar, and Kluber and his performances on the bump the Indians are laughing right now when matching up against opposing starting pitchers.
Tampa Bay is 5-1 in their last six road games, 3-7 in their last 10 Monday games, and a paltry 5-23 in their last 28 road games against a team with a winning record while the Indians are 8-0 in their last eight home games, 18-3 in Tomlin’s last 21 starts, and 9-0 in his last nine starts against a team with a losing record. Tampa has been struggling of late and with the way Tomlin has been pitching of late you can’t go against the Tribe here.
