The Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Dodgers meet up at the Ravine on Monday night in a battle of two of the league’s pitching titans as Stephen Strasburg faces off with Clayton Kershaw.
The Nationals head into Los Angeles for a series with the Dodgers starting on Monday night and they continue their road trip in California after a set with the San Diego Padres that was low lighted by a loss yesterday. The Nats though get Strasburg on the mound who looks to remain undefeated and move to a perfect 11-0 but he will face off against Kershaw who has been absolutely ridiculous this season and is certainly in the running for not only the NL Cy Young award but the MVP as well. Washington though has a six game edge on the Dodgers in the standings and while they aren’t in the same division it does act as a nice reference point for where each other need to be in terms of competition level and the Nats would love to make a statement here that they are serious threats to win the National League pennant.

The Dodgers meanwhile are starting to play much better and while they are still a ways back of the San Francisco Giants in the National League West they are trending upwards and get their ace on the mound today who will look to move to 11-1 and lower his already microscopic ERA at 1.58. Los Angeles though has a burden of being big time underachievers and were back on that track earlier this season and while they will ultimately be measured by how well they do in the playoffs they have to get their first and it is going to be a bumpy road as they have some holes after Kershaw in the rotation.
Washington is 9-1 in their last 10 road games against a lefty, 8-1 in Strassy’s last nine road starts, and 7-2 in their last nine overall while the Dodgers are 1-6 in their last seven Monday games, 5-0 in their last five against the NL East, and 60-25 in in their last 85 starts from Kershaw. This is going to be an incredible game to watch in a game that could feature one run between to pitching gladiators. I am taking a shot with the Nats here who are the better team and while Kershaw is ridiculous, Strasburg has been strong as well and I think he adds to it.
