Down at Marlins Park on Tuesday, the Atlanta Braves will be kicking off a quick two-game set against the Miami Marlins.
The Braves are coming off a weekend series against the Mets. Atlanta swept all three games by a combined 15-4, giving the team a five-game win streak.
As for the Marlins, they just finished up against the Rockies. Miami took the first three games by a combined 17-7 score, and on Monday in the finale the Marlins were prevented from the sweep 5-3.

For Tuesday’s game, the Braves will be rolling out right-hander Bud Norris. In his 20 games (eight starts) and 2-7 record this year, Norris has contributed a 4.81 ERA with a 1.43 WHIP in 58 total innings. On Wednesday in a no-decision against the Reds, Norris struck out seven in five innings and allowed three runs on three hits.
Atlanta’s hitters have been coming on strong lately. Freddie Freeman leads the team with 72 hits, 33 runs, 12 homers and 26 RBI. Nick Markakis has a team-high 39 RBI with 62 hits, 25 runs and 17 doubles. Adonis Garcia has hit safely 46 times with 16 runs, three homers and 14 RBI thus far.
Right-hander Jose Fernandez will be taking the hill for the Marlins on Tuesday. In his 13 starts and 9-3 record this year, Fernandez has put up a 2.57 ERA with a 1.04 WHIP in 80.2 innings. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Fernandez on the mound (June 11), as he was skipped in his last turn through the rotation in an effort to limit his overall workload.
There are plenty of shining stars on the Miami roster. Martin Prado has been great on 84 hits with 31 runs and 22 RBI this year. Prado went 0-for-3 on Monday, however. Marcel Ozuna is the big hitter with his 15 homers, 43 RBI, 84 hits and 44 runs. Christian Yelich has put up 73 hits with 32 runs and 35 RBI thus far.
The Braves are 5-1 in their last six games against the National League East, and 37-77 in their last 114 overall. Atlanta is also 14-38 in their last 52 Tuesday games, and 1-4 in Norris’ last five starts against a team with a winning record.
As for the Marlins, they’re 3-8 in their last 11 against the National League East, and 8-0 in Fernandez’s last eight Tuesday starts. Miami is also 27-2 in Fernandez’s last 29 home starts and 36-15 in Fernandez’s last 51 starts overall.
Miami has been pretty hot lately, and with Fernandez on the mound I think they’ll come out on top here. Give me the Marlins in the opener, despite a very thick line.
