The Milwaukee Brewers continue their west coast swing with a stop at the Oakland Athletics.
The Milwaukee Brewers lone goal was to reach .500 although achieving that goal has gotten more difficult with defeats in seven of ten. The Brewers come off a 2-1 loss at the Dodgers on Sunday where the bats and late inning relief cost them. Brew Crew starter Matt Garza allowed five hits over six scoreless frames and left with a 1-0 lead but Will Smith served up an 8th inning homer to blow the save before Tyler Thornburg gave up a 9th inning run to lose it. The Milwaukee attack consisted of six hits and three walks with Scooter Gennett smacking his 8th homer in the first. Milwaukee is scheduled to start Jimmy Nelson who has never seen the Athletics. Nelson has struggled the last three times out with 14 runs scored on 23 hits and eight BB over 13 innings.

The Oakland Athletics are falling so far behind the Rangers in the American League West that many are saying their season is over. The Athletics have dropped seven of ten following a 2-0 defeat to the visiting Angels on Sunday. A’s starter deserved a better fate with both runs allowed on six hits and a pair of BB through six innings which dropped him to 0-5. The Oakland offense was held to just three hits and a base on balls with Billy Butler being the only threat with a pair of singles. Sonny Gray toes the rubber against the visiting Brewers for the first time in his career on Tuesday. Gray comes off a 7-5 loss to Texas with five runs given up on eight hits in six frames.
Milwaukee are 1-7 in their last 8 road games and the over is 15-5-3 in their last 23 interleague games while going 7-3 in their last 10 road games. The under is 9-1 in Oakland’s last 10 games following a loss and the over is 8-2 in Gray’s last 10 starts overall while going 6-2 in Gray’s last 8 starts on grass. Gray has not looked like himself but if he does (IF) then the Brewers will have a hard time…
