Up at Rogers Centre on Tuesday, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Toronto Blue Jays will be kicking off a quick two-game MLB series.
The Diamondbacks are coming off a set against the Phillies. Arizona won the first three games by a combined score of 19-4, and in the Monday finale the Diamondbacks finished off the sweep 3-1.
As for the Blue Jays, they played the Orioles over the weekend. Toronto won the first game Friday, but dropped the final two matchups.

The Diamondbacks will be rolling with lefty Patrick Corbin in the starting role Tuesday. Over 14 starts and a 3-6 record this year, Corbin has put up a 4.76 ERA with a 1.35 WHIP in 85 innings of work. On Wednesday against the Dodgers, Corbin allowed three runs on seven hits over 6.1 innings for a loss.
The Diamondbacks have a handful of noteworthy bats in their order. Jean Segura heads the charge on 87 hits with 36 runs and 29 RBI. Paul Goldschmidt has popped 14 homers with 45 RBI, 72 hits and 41 runs. Goldschmidt got the day off on Monday. Jake Lamb holds 65 hits with 34 runs, 14 homers and 45 RBI thus far. Lamb blasted a homer in Monday’s game.
Meanwhile, the Blue Jays will be countering with right-hander Marco Estrada on Tuesday. In 13 starts with a 5-2 record this year, Estrada has managed a 2.58 ERA with a 0.98 WHIP in 87.1 innings of work. On Wednesday against the Phillies, Estrada went 6.2 innings, giving up two earned on four hits.
At the plate, Toronto is a pretty packed bunch. Josh Donaldson has slapped 17 homers with 46 RBI, 72 hits and 60 runs. Kevin Pillar is right alongside with his 71 hits, 32 runs and 27 RBI. Michael Saunders is playing well this year also on 71 hits, 36 runs, 15 homers and 32 RBI. Edwin Encarnacion is the big bat in the lineup with 18 homers, 61 RBI, 69 hits and 41 runs.
The Diamondbacks are 2-6 in their last eight game ones of a series, and 9-3 in Corbin’s last 12 road starts. Arizona is also 1-4 in Corbin’s last five starts overall, and 1-4 in Corbin’s last five starts after a quality start in his last appearance.
As for the Blue Jays, they’re 5-2 in their last seven interleague games, and 7-3 in their last 10 overall. Toronto is also 10-4 in Estrada’s last 14 home starts and 4-0 in Estrada’s last four starts in game one of a series.
I’m not too thrilled with Corbin this year, so I’ll go with Estrada and the Blue Jays for the victory here.
