The Tampa Bay Rays open a series at Camden Yards Friday versus the Baltimore Orioles.
The Tampa Bay Rays were hot a few weeks ago and without warning the arms and bats could not get on the same page and the result has been seven consecutive defeats. The Rays are coming off of a 6-1 loss at Cleveland where nothing went favorably. TB starter Chris Archer was charged with four runs on six hits over six frames to fall to 4-10 before Matt Andriese allowed two runs in 1.2 innings. Tampa Bay was held to three hits and a base on balls with Corey Dickerson driving in Brad Miller with the lone run. Left hander Matt Moore draws the series opening start at Baltimore on Friday. Moore did not get a decision in a 6-4 loss to San Francisco where he gave up two runs on six hits over six innings.

The Baltimore Orioles sit atop the American League East but have only been playing .500 baseball the past few weeks. The Orioles will be looking to build on Wednesday’s 7-2 victory versus visiting San Diego. O’s starter Ubaldo Jimenez improved to 4-7 with both runs allowed on four hits and four BB over six innings. The Birds pounded out eleven hits with Mark Trumbo going 3-4 with a homer an two runs while Jonathan Schoop went solo. Matt Wieters drove in two more and Ryan Flaherty and Adam Jones each scored twice. Yovani Gallardo gets his second start for the Orioles since coming off the disabled list. Gallardo defeated Toronto 4-2 with both runs plated on five hits and five BB in five frames.
The over is 17-5-2 in Tampa Bay’s last 24 road games and 14-5-2 in their last 21 on grass while the Rays are 4-9 in their last 13 Friday games. Baltimore are 12-5 in their last 17 games on grass and 35-16 in their last 51 home games. Perhaps going a bit against the numbers here but…
