Coming up on Friday in MLB action from Yankee Stadium, the Minnesota Twins and the New York Yankees will be kicking off their weekend series.
The Twins are coming off a pair of games against the Phillies this week. Minnesota took the first two by a combined 21-16 score, and in the finale Thursday the Twins dropped one 7-3.
As for the Yankees, they tangled with the Rockies this week. New York dropped the first game 8-4 but took the second 9-8.

Minnesota will be rolling with lefty Tommy Milone for Friday’s game. In his five appearances so far (four starts), Milone has an 0-1 record with a 5.79 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP across 23.1 innings. The Twins placed Milone in the rotation in place of the struggling Pat Dean.
There are a few notable gems in the Twins’ order. Eduardo Nunez leads the way on 78 hits with 34 runs and 26 RBI. Joe Mauer has hit 72 times with 31 runs and 26 RBI. Brian Dozier has 62 hits to his credit this year, with 35 runs and 29 RBI. Dozier had a hit and an RBI on Thursday.
On Friday, the Yankees will be countering with right-hander Masahiro Tanaka. In his 14 starts and 4-2 record this year, Tanaka has put up a 2.91 ERA with a 1.00 WHIP in 92.2 innings. On Friday against these same Twins, Tanaka grabbed a win with eight innings of one-run ball on seven hits.
At the plate, New York the Yankees have a pretty solid group of hitters. Carlos Beltran heads the charge on a team-high 19 homers with 51 RBI, 71 hits and 39 runs. Starlin Castro is still hitting fairly well with 68 hits, 26 runs, 10 homers and 28 RBI. Didi Gregorius has put up 67 hits with 26 runs and 32 RBI this year so far.
The Twins are 10-26 in their last 36 against the American League East, and 1-8 in their last nine Friday games. Minnesota is also 3-8 in Milone’s last 11 road starts and 5-1 in Milone’s last six starts in game one of a series.
As for the Yankees, they’re 4-1 in their last five Friday games, and 7-3 in their last 10 against the American League Central. New York is also 5-1 in Tanaka’s last six home starts, and 6-2 in Tanaka’s last eight starts overall.
The Yankees are well-rested for this one, so I like Tanaka and New York to take care of business here.
