The St. Louis Cardinals visit Safeco Field to battle the Seattle Mariners in interleague action.
The hot and cold Cardinals are hot right now as they come off of a three game road sweep of the mighty Cubs which is hopefully a momentum builder going forward. The Cardinals come off a 7-2 rout of Jake Arrieta at Wrigley Field on Wednesday as starter Michael Wacha improved to 3-7 with both runs given up on three hits and a pair of BB over 6.2 frames. The Cards did their damage on nine hits and five walks with Aledmys Diaz going 3-4 with a homer, two RBI’s, and two runs while Matt Carpenter drove in a pair and scored twice. Carlos Martinez toes the rubber for is first career meeting with the Mariners on Friday. Martinez did not get a decision in a 4-3 loss versus the Rangers with the pen blowing a 3-0 lead in the 8th.

The Seattle Mariners have been fading over the past several weeks and have been losing ground to Texas. The fade continued in a 5-4, ten inning defeat at Detroit Thursday the Mariners were forced to start Vidal Nuno when Adrian Sampson hurt his elbow. Nuno allowed four runs through 3.1 innings with Steve Cishek giving up a run in the 10th to fall to 2-4. The M’s logged eight hits with Leonys Martin and Chris Iannetta smacking solo homers while Nelson Cruz clubbed a pair of solo bombs.Taijuan Walker is scheduled to make Friday’s start against the visiting Cardinals but his status is undetermined because of tendinitis in his right foot and no replacement has been named.
The under is 6-1-1 in the Cardinals last 8 overall and is 6-1-1 in their last 8 on grass while the Cardinals are 2-7 in their last 9 Friday games. The over is 5-2-1 in Seattle’s last 8 interleague home games and is 9-4-1 in their last 14 home games. St. Louis are 7-2 in the last 9 meetings. I’m going with St. Louis even though the Mariners need to name a starter…
