Early Saturday evening at PNC Park, we’ve got another installment of the weekend series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
This will be game two of the series. In Friday’s opener, the Pirates snagged an 8-6 victory. The Dodgers out-hit Pittsburgh 13-12 in that one.

For Saturday’s game, we’ll be seeing the Dodgers bring out right-hander Kenta Maeda to the mound. In his 14 starts and 6-4 record this year, Maeda has managed a 2.64 ERA with a 1.10 WHIP in 81.2 innings. In a no-decision against the Brewers on Sunday, Maeda logged just one run on six hits in 6.1 innings.
The high-profile Dodgers lineup is chock full of potential. Corey Seager has 87 hits with 48 runs, 16 homers and 31 RBI thus far. Seager bagged four hits on Friday. Adrian Gonzalez has put up 70 hits with 24 runs and 33 RBI. Chase Utley is right there as well on 64 hits with 39 runs and 25 RBI.
Lefty Jeff Locke will be taking the hill for the Pirates on Sunday. Over 14 games and a 6-5 record this year, Locke has contributed a 5.44 ERA with a 1.43 WHIP in 82.2 innings. On Monday, Locke bagged a 1-0 win with 6.2 shutout innings against the Giants.
The Pittsburgh lineup features a bevy of hitters as well. Starling Marte heads the charge on 85 hits with 37 runs and 28 RBI. Gregory Polanco has 77 hits with 47 runs, 10 homers and 44 RBI. Polanco was out on Friday due to leg discomfort. Andrew McCutchen is hitting well on 67 hits with 39 RBI, 10 homers and 28 RBI, but sports a tepid .238 BA.
The Dodgers are 19-7 in their last 26 game twos of a series, and 5-2 in their last seven Saturday games. L.A. is also 5-1 in Maeda’s last six road starts, and 5-2 in Maeda’s last six starts overall.
As for the Pirates, they’re 1-6 in their last seven Saturday games, and 0-4 in their last four game twos of a series. Pittsburgh is also 5-1 in Locke’s last six starts with four days’ rest, and 2-6 in Locke’s last eight starts in game two of a series.
I don’t have a whole lot of confidence in Locke, so I’m going with the Dodgers and Maeda here.
