The Texas Rangers look to continue their impressive season as they take to the road to match up with the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.
The Rangers have been the class of the American League this season and continue to build on their disappointing finish in the playoffs last year as they have a World Series or bust mentality this season. Texas is one of the most well balanced teams in the league and have some very serviceable options on the mound led by Cole Hamels, Colby Lewis, and Yu Darvish but it’ll be Chi Chi Gonzalez getting the call tonight as he will face off against Ivan Nova. Texas is a very impressive 49-27 this season and are a full 10+ games ahead of the Yankees heading into this contest but they are pretty sizeable underdogs in this spot as Gonzalez makes his season debut and is expected to be overwhelmed by the bright lights of the mecca of the MLB.

The Yankees meanwhile are an even 37-37 and will turn to the tumultuous but sometimes very excellent arm of Ivan Nova here who is 5-5 with a 5.18 ERA heading into Monday night’s contest against the AL’s best. New York has had its up and downs this season but are still in the mix in the AL East but with very modest projections for this group for the rest of the season there is speculation they are going to sell off some pieces, namely Andrew Miller and Aroldis Chapman, and start to stockpile some pieces to use for the future, though that isn’t the Yankee way to do business. New York is 21-16 at home this season though and is a tough place for a pitcher to make their first start of the season so there is some substance to the odds favouring the Pinstripers here.
Texas is 13-3 in their last 16 road games, 4-1 in their last five against the AL East, and 38-17 in their last 55 overall while the Yanks are 8-0 in their last eight against the AL West, 1-6 in Nova’s last seven home starts against a team with a winning record and 2-5 in his last seven Monday starts. The Rangers continue to get no respect from the odds makers and while New York may have the edge on the mound the Rangers are the better team overall and I think they get the win tonight.
