The Chicago Cubs hope to get hot again when they visit the Cincinnati Reds on Monday.
The mighty Chicago Cubs are going through their first real slowdown and it will be interesting to see if it lasts long enough to make a difference. The Cubs had dropped six of seven before exploding for an 11-8 win at Cincinnati Monday. Cubbies starter Jake Arrieta looked average with five runs scored on four hits and five BB over five frames before four relievers closed the game out. Chicago amassed 17 hits with Anthony Rizzo and Arrieta going deep while Kris Bryant went 5-5 with three homers, six RBI’s and four runs. Veteran Jon Lester draws the start Tuesday at Great American Ball Park. Lester did not receive a decision in a 4-2 loss at Miami last time out with two runs scored on seven hits over seven innings.

The Cincinnati Reds are well off the pace in the National League Central and are relegated to the role of spoilers. The Reds have been struggling the past few weeks and the struggles continued Monday as the work on the mound couldn’t hold up. Cinci starter Dan Straily absorbed the loss with seven runs plated on nine hits including two homers through 3.2 innings with Ross Ohlendorf serving up two homers. The Reds totaled eight hits and six walks with Joey Votto leading the way with a pair of long balls, three RBI’s and three runs while Adam Duvall knocked in two and scored. The Reds hand the ball to left hander John Lamb who faces the Cubs for the second time in 2016. Lamb comes off of a7-4 loss to Sam Diego where he was charged with four runs (three earned)on four hits and three BB in 5.1 frames.
The Cubs are 36-17 in their last 53 Tuesday games. The under is 6-2 in Cincinnati’s last 8 home games and the Reds are 5-12 in their last 17 Tuesday games while going 30-61 in their last 91 overall. Chicago are 7-1 in the last 8 meetings in Cincinnati and the over is 16-5-2 in the last 23 meetings. The numbers say Cubs but use caution because they look beatable right now…
