The Boston Red Sox look to gain ground in the standings with a win at the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday.
The Boston Red Sox sit in second place in the American League East but their pitching and hitting have been a bit all over. The Red Sox pitching was nowhere to be found in a 13-7 defeat at Tropicana Field on Monday. Boston starter Eduardo Rodriguez was tagged for nine runs on eleven hits over 2.2 frames to absorb the loss. The Red Sox managed eleven hits and four walks with Sandy Leon going deep with two RBI’s and a run while Bryce Brentz doubled twice and drove in two. Rick Porcello toes the rubber against Tampa Bay for the second time this season. Porcello comes off of an 8-7 (ND) win versus the White Sox with four runs given up on eight hits over 5.1 innings.

There is not much to say about Tampa Bay in the past few weeks except the arms and bats have not been on the same page. The Rays had been mired in an awful eleven game slide but finally broke in to the win column with a huge offensive showing on Monday. TB starter Blake Snell gave up four runs on eight hits and four BB through 5.1 innings but that was plenty good enough with the offense racking up 18 hits and three walks. Nick Franklin and Logan Forsythe each homered and combined for eight RBI’s while Logan Morrison and Taylor Motter knocked in two runs each. Tampa Bay hands the ball to Chris Archer who opposes the Red Sox for the second time on the year. Archer comes off of a 6-1 loss at Cleveland with four runs allowed on six hits and five BB in six frames.
Tamp Bay are 0-11 in their last 11 overall and the under is 7-3 in their last 10 on astroturf while going 7-3 in the Rays last 10 home games. I’m just going over after Monday’s slugfest…
