The Detroit Tigers head to the Sunshine State to kick off a series with the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Detroit Tigers have moved above .500 and if they are serious about challenging in the American League Central the time is now to make a run. The Tigers have won back to back games after stomping Miami 10-3 on Wednesday with solid efforts from both the arms and bats. Detroit starter Daniel Norris gave up a pair of runs on eight hits over five frames to improve to 1-0. The Tigers pounded out 15 hits and walked twice with Steven Moya going solo while Miguel Cabrera and Jarrod Saltalamacchia went 6-7 with homers and five RBI’s. Ryan Zimmermann toes the rubber versus Tampa Bay for the second time this season. Zimmermann comes off of a 7-5 loss to Cleveland with all seven runs scored on nine hits over 3.2 innings.

Wins have been far and few between for the Tampa Bay Rays for the past several weeks. The Rays had dropped nine of eleven before shutting down the big offense of the Red Sox 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon. TB starter Matt Moore was at the top of his game with a three hitter through seven scoreless innings to up his record to 4-5. Tampa Bay totaled nine hits and a base on balls with Brandon Guyer going 2-4 with a homer and two RBI’s while Evan Longoria drove in a run and scored. Tampa Bay turns to Jake Odorizzi for game one of their series with the visiting Tigers. Odorizzi was hit hard in an 8-6 loss at Baltimore last time out with five runs plated on eight hits including three homers in five frames.
Tampa Bay are 1-12 in their last 13 overall and the under is 7-2 in Odorizzi’s last 9 home starts while going 7-3-1 in Odorizzi’s last 11 on astroturf. If you take the Rays you need Odorizzi to control the Detroit offense and Tampa needs to score. I’m not interested…
