For Thursday’s game, the Indians will be bringing out right-hander Carlos Carrasco. In nine games and a 3-2 record this year, Carrasco has put together a 2.73 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP in 56 innings overall. On Saturday against the Tigers, Carrasco threw a four-hit, complete-game shutout.
Cleveland has a nice collection of hitters in their lineup. Francisco Lindor heads the charge with 91 hits, 52 runs, 10 homers and 39 RBI. Jason Kipnis has hit 79 times with 38 runs, 10 homers and 44 RBI. Kipnis bagged a hit and two RBI on Wednesday. Carlos Santana has 67 hits with 43 runs, 16 homers and 42 RBI thus far.
On Thursday, the Blue Jays will be going with right-hander R.A. Dickey for the start. In 16 games and a 5-8 record this season, Dickey has managed a 4.23 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP in 95.2 innings. On Saturday against the White Sox, Dickey was beat up for five runs (four earned) on six hits in 5.1 innings.
Toronto has an enviable lineup of hitters in their possession. Josh Donaldson leads the way with 84 hits, 64 runs, 17 homers and 51 RBI. Kevin Pillar is right behind with 79 hits, 34 runs and 33 RBI. Edwin Encarnacion holds a team-high 21 homers, 69 RBI, 76 hits and 49 runs.
The Indians are 4-0 in their last four game ones of a series, and 20-8 in their last 28 Thursday games. Cleveland is also 7-2 in Carrasco’s last nine starts and 11-4 in Carrasco’s last 15 road starts.
As for the Blue Jays, they’re 4-1 in their last five Thursday games, and 1-6 in their last seven game ones of a series. Toronto is also 4-11 in Dickey’s last 15 starts and 0-8 in Dickey’s last eight home starts.
The Indians are red hot right now, and I don’t completely trust Dickey. I’ll take Cleveland for the victory.
