The Kansas City Royals visit Citizens Bank Park for an interleague bout with the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Kansas City Royals are trying to chase down the Cleveland Indians in the American League Central. The Royals might be heating up after Thursday’s 4-2 win at St. Louis was number four in five times out. KC starter Chris Young gave up a run on a solo homer which was the only hit he allowed while four relievers held the Cardinals at bay. KC was held to seven hits and a base on balls with Kendrys Morales going 3-4 with a home and two RBI’s while Jarrod Dyson doubled in a run. The Royals send Ian Kennedy to the hill to oppose the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday. Kennedy defeated Houston 6-1 last time out with the lone run allowed over seven innings.

The Philadelphia Phillies are trying to recover from their month long swoon and get back in the National League East race. The Phillies are riding a three game winning streak following a 9-8, ten inning win at Arizona on Wednesday. Phils starter Zach Eflin gave up four runs (three earned) through six innings with Severino Garcia allowing two. Philadelphia racked up 17 hits and walked three times with Peter Bourjos going deep and driving in two and scoring twice while Cody Asche went 3-5 with three RBI’s. The Phillies send Jeremy Hellickson to the bump for his first meeting with the Royals since 2014. Hellickson comes off of a 3-2 win at San Francisco where he allowed both runs (one earned) in six frames.
Kansas City are 3-11 in their last 14 road games and the under is 5-2-1 in their last 8 interleague games. Philadelphia are 3-13 in their last 16 home games and are 8-23 in their last 31 games on grass while going 9-24 in their last 33 overall. I give a slight edge to Kansas City who really need this…
