The Los Angeles Angels look to keep their bats hot at Fenway Park as they continue their series on the road against the Boston Red Sox on Sunday.
The Angels head into Sunday’s encounter with the Red Sox looking to play their way back into the race in the American League West after an ugly 1-9 stretch has them cemented in the basement of the standings and they are a full 18 games behind the AL leading Texas Rangers. Los Angeles was expected to be competitive once again this season as they have been for the better part of a decade but even the great Mike Trout can play the Angels out of this hole as they just not a very solid lineup when you like at it top to bottom and their rotation has been a disappointment as nobody has been able to step up as the ace of the staff. They will look to build on yesterday’s effort though as they send Matt Shoemaker to the mound who is expected to face off against Sean O’Sullivan who is 1-0 on the year but has a very high 7.94 ERA.

The Red Sox are very much in the running for the AL East crown and should be considered a threat to get into the playoffs this season as they battle with the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays and if they can add a piece to their underwhelming rotation they could be very tough to beat. Boston has a very strong offense though they didn’t show it yesterday and they gave up runs in bunches to the otherwise light hitting Angels which can certainly be considered a disappointing effort, especially at home for the BoSox. Boston will look for a better effort today out of O’Sullivan who doesn’t really have the track record to prove he can be trusted long term but against Shoemaker he might be in the clear as this one should hit the over.
Los Angeles is 2-14 in their last 16 against the AL East, 1-5 in Shoemaker’s last six road starts, and 1-7 in their last eight against a righty, while the Red Sox are 11-4 in their last 15 against the AL East, 7-3 in their last 10 Sunday games, and 4-1 in their last five against a righty. Los Angeles is in a funk and while they may have an edge on the mound I don’t see it being a factor as Boston gets back on track with a rebound victory.
