Down on the South Side at US Cellular Field on Tuesday, the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox will do battle once again.
This will be the second game of the set. On Monday, the White Sox kicked things off with an 8-2 win.
USA TODAY Sports
Right-hander Masahiro Tanaka will take the hill for the Yankees on Tuesday. In his 16 starts and 5-2 record this year, Tanaka has managed a 3.35 ERA with a 1.06 WHIP in 104.2 innings. Last time out against the Rangers, Tanaka was punched up for six runs on eight hits in six innings.
New York has made some pretty good strides with their order this year, considering. Didi Gregorius heads the way with 80 hits, 34 runs and 38 RBI. Carlos Beltran has a team-high 19 homers with 80 hits, 42 runs and 53 RBI. Starlin Castro is still playing fairly well with his 28 runs, 75 hits, 10 homers and 31 RBI. Castro went 4-for-4 on Monday.
Lefty Carlos Rodon will get the start for the White Sox Tuesday. Over 15 starts and a 2-6 record this year, Rodon has a 4.24 ERA with a 1.46 WHIP in 87 innings. On Thursday in a no-decision against the Twins, Rodon gave up five hits and four earned.
Chicago’s hitters have fallen off a bit lately, but are still a capable crew. Adam Eaton sits atop the heap with 89 hits, 41 runs and 27 RBI. Jose Abreu has hit 86 times with 30 runs, 11 homers and 50 RBI. Todd Frazier has a team-high 23 homers with 52 RBI, 64 hits and 49 runs, but is hitting just .212 on the season. Frazier went 3-for-3 on Monday, though.
The Yankees are 1-4 in their last five Tuesday games, and 8-2 in Tanaka’s last 10 starts. New York is also 2-5 in Tanaka’s last seven starts against a team with a winning record, , and 4-1 in Tanaka’s last five starts against the American league Central.
As for the White Sox, they’re 4-12 in their last 16 game twos of a series, and 2-6 in their last eight Tuesday games. Chicago is also 11-3 in Rodon’s last 14 starts with four days’ rest, and 3-8 in Rodon’s last 11 starts overall.
This game could get messy, but I’ll stick with Tanaka and the Yankees for the victory.
