The Oakland Athletics look to shake off another loss on the road against the Minnesota Twins as they head to Texas to face off against the Houston Astros on Thursday night.
The Athletics take to the road hoping a divisional show down with the Houston Astros is what cures their ailments as they finish off another series before the all-star break, which for them can’t come soon enough as they have had a rough start to the season. Oakland sits second to last in the AL West and are up on only the LA Angels who continue to be a mystery as they can’t seem to find ways to win consistently despite having a world class talent in Mike Trout anchoring the lineup. Oakland will look to get a solid outing out of Rich Hill who returns from the shelf and as one of the better pitchers in the American League in the first half of the season he is in a good position going up against Doug Fister who has also played well this season but certainly isn’t a front line ace by any means.

The Astros meanwhile have really turned things around since their sluggish start and while they still have a ton of work to do before they can challenge the Texas Rangers for the division they are right back in the mix for a wild card spot despite an off year from Dallas Keuchel. Houston is coming off a nice outing at the plate yesterday against the Seattle Mariners and they will look to keep it going at home tonight as they have been consistent when playing in Houston this season and with the light hitting A’s in town they should be in a good position to grab another win in this spot.
Oakland is 6-1 in their last seven road games against a righty, 8-22 in their last 30 Thursday games, and 6-0 in Hill’s last six road starts while the Astros are 6-0 in Fister’s last six starts against the AL West, 8-2 in their last 10 home games, and 14-3 in their last 17 against the AL West. Oakland is struggling right now and heading into Houston against Fister and the Astros isn’t a great spot despite Rich Hill getting the call.
