The Los Angeles Angels and Tampa Bay Rays conclude their series at Tropicana Field on Thursday.
The Los Angeles Angels have been inconsistent the majority of the season and it will be interesting to see if they trade away some talent. The struggling Angels had lost seven of ten before everything came together in a 7-2 win at Tampa Bay Wednesday. LAA starter Jered Weaver gave up a run on four hits over six frames to get the win. Los Angeles totaled nine hits and five walks with Mike Trout going deep with two RBI’s and two runs while Yunel Escobar and Andrelton Simmons each drove in a run and scored. The Angels end the series on the mound with Hector Santiago who faced the Rays in 2015. Santiago is coming off of a 21-2 win at Boston where he allowed an unearned run over six innings.

The Tampa Bay Rays just can’t get their arms and bats on the same page and the result is last place in the American League East. The Rays had issues on the mound and at the plate in Wednesday’s defeat which saddled the team with losses in eight of eleven. TB starter Drew Smyly was charged with all seven runs (four earned) on eight hits and a trio of free passes to absorb the loss. Tampa Bay mustered nine hits with Logan Forsythe going solo while Evan Longoria went 3-4 with a run. Rookie Blake Snell gets the ball Thursday against the Angels for his 6th start of the season. Over, Snell is 1-3 with a 3.86 ERA and a 1.71 WHIP with 15 walks issued thus far.
The Angels are 2-6 in their last 8 road games and are 8-20 in their last 28 overall while the over is 10-4 in their last 14 on astroturf. Tampa Bay are 4-17 in their last 21 and the over is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings in Tampa Bay. I’d probably do something small on the over but I won’t be able to watch the Rays offense…
