In Thursday MLB action from Globe Life Park, the Minnesota Twins and the Texas Rangers will be kicking off their weekend series.
The Twins just finished up a series against the Athletics. The two teams split the first pair, then in Wednesday’s rubber match, Minnesota secured a 4-0 victory.
As for the Rangers, they’re coming off a set against the Red Sox at Fenway. Boston and Texas split their first two as well, and on Wednesday in the finale the Rangers lost 11-6.

Minnesota will be bringing out right-hander Tyler Duffey for Thursday’s game. Over his 13 starts and 4-6 record this year, Duffey has put up a 5.62 ERA with a 1.41 WHIP in 73.2 innings of work. Duffey is coming off a win against these same Rangers, tossing six innings with four runs on eight hits.
At the plate, the Twins feature a few recognizable bats. Eduardo Nunez has put up 95 hits with 43 runs, 11 homers and 36 RBI. Joe Mauer sits on 79 hits with 38 runs and 27 RBI so far. Mauer recorded three hits, an RBI and a run on Wednesday. Brian Dozier is up there as well on 46 runs, 75 hits, 13 homers and 41 RBI.
On the Rangers’ side, we’ll be seeing RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez on the mound Thursday. In his two starts and 0-1 record this season, Gonzalez has put up a 9.53 ERA with a 2.82 WHIP in 5.2 innings. Gonzalez lasted just 0.2 innings on Saturday against Minnesota, allowing four runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks.
Thankfully, the Texas hitters can clean up the mess if needed. Ian Desmond is way out front on his 108 hits, 63 runs, 15 homers and 54 RBI this year. Desmond smacked a triple in Wednesday’s game. Adrian Beltre has put up 85 hits with 44 runs, 12 hits and 53 RBI. Rougned Odor has posted 85 hits with 55 runs, 15 homers and 43 RBI.
The Twins are 0-4 in their last four Thursday games, and 4-1 in Duffey’s last five starts in game one of a series. Minnesota is also 4-1 in Duffey’s last five starts against a team with a winning record, and 10-28 in their last 38 road games.
Meanwhile, the Rangers are 8-3 in their last 11 Thursday games, and 55-24 in their last 79 home games. Texas is also 0-4 in Gonzalez’s last four starts with four days’ rest, and 1-4 in Gonzalez’s last five starts against a team with a losing record.
I see this one as a repeat of this weekend with Duffey and Gonzalez on the mound. I’ll take the Twins for the victory.
