RHP Chad Green will be making the start for the Yankees on Friday. In three appearances (two starts) and a 1-1 record this year, Green holds a 4.09 ERA with a 1.09 WHIP in 11 innings. Green is coming off a spot-start Sunday against the Padres, where he struck out eight in six innings of one-run ball.
The New York hitters are a capable bunch overall. Carlos Beltran heads the charge on 83 hits with 43 runs, 19 homers and 54 RBI. Didi Gregorius has 85 hits with 36 runs, 10 homers and 39 RBI of his own. Gregorious slapped a homer on Thursday. Starlin Castro has put up 82 hits with 31 runs, 10 homers and 31 RBI thus far.
Over on the Indians’ side, we’ll be seeing right-hander Corey Kluber on Friday. In his 17 games and 8-8 record so far, Kluber has posted a 3.79 ERA with a 1.04 WHIP in 114 innings. On Sunday against the Blue Jays, Kluber had a rough outing on seven hits and five runs in 3.1 innings for a loss.
Cleveland has a pretty electric lineup at the plate these days. Francisco Lindor has posted 97 his with 54 runs, 10 homers and 43 RBI. Jason Kipnis is sitting on 88 hits with 45 runs, 12 homers and 47 RBI. Kipnis managed a solo homer in Thursday’s game. Carlos Santana holds 78 hits with a team-high 19 homers, 46 RBI and 50 runs.
The Yankees are 5-2 in their last seven Friday games, and 3-5 in their last eight road games. New York is also 2-4 in their last six road games against a right-handed starter and 2-5 in their last seven games against a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15.
As for the Indians, they’re 6-0 in their last six game twos of a series, and 20-6 in their last 26 Friday games. Cleveland is also 11-5 in Kluber’s last 16 Friday starts, and 5-2 in Kluber’s last seven starts in game two of a series.
I think the Indians can overcome Green here, so give me Cleveland for the victory.
