The Detroit Tigers and Toronto Blue Jays take the field in the second game of their series on Friday.
The Detroit Tigers have been playing well but are having difficulty making up ground in the American League Central because Cleveland is winning as well. The Tigers missed out on a chance to pick up a game in the standings with Thursday’s 5-4 defeat at Toronto. Detroit starter Justin Verlander gave up a pair of runs on six hits and four BB over 5.2 frames before the pen gave up three runs. The Tigers logged eight hits and two walks with Nick Castellanos and Justin Upton going solo while James McCann drove in a run and scored. TMike Pelfrey shoots for back to back victories when he takes the ball at Toronto on Friday. Pelfrey defeated Tampa Bay 5-1 last time out with the lone run scoring on six hits over 6.1 innings.

The Toronto Blue Jays are playing well and I’m sure the Orioles are keeping an eye on them. The surging Blue Jays are extremely dangerous when both their arms and bats are on the same page which we saw in Thursday’s come from behind win versus the visiting Tigers. Jays starter Drew Hutchison allowed three runs on six hits including a pair of long balls through six innings but did not get a decision. Toronto pounded out 12 hits and walked five times with Troy Tulowitzki driving in three while Michael Saunders knocked in a run and scored three times. The Blue Jays go with JA Happ on the bump Friday in game two of their series with the Tigers. Happ defeated Cleveland 17-1 last time out with the lone run allowed on five hits while whiffing eleven in seven frames.
Detroit are 7-2 in their last 9 overall and the over is 7-3 in their last 10 overall while the Tigers are 7-16 in their last 23 Friday games. Toronto are 8-2 in their last 10 Friday games and the over is 6-2 in Happ’s last 8 home starts while the under is 26-11 in Happ’s last 37 on astroturf. The over is 16-5-1 in the last 22 meetings. I think Happ and the Jays bats are the way to go…
