Coming up in Sunday MLB action from Minute Maid Park, the Oakland Athletics will be taking on the Houston Astros.
In the Thursday opener of this series, the A’s took a 3-1 win. The Astros eked by 10-9 on Friday, then on Saturday the Athletics managed a super-close 3-2 victory.

For Sunday’s game, the A’s will be going with lefty Sean Manaea. In his 11 starts and 3-5 record this year, Manaea has put up a 5.85 ERA with a 1.47 WHIP in 60 innings. His last time out, Manaea put up a loss in Minnesota, allowing seven hits and six runs in five innings.
It’s pretty easy to find the key hitters in the Oakland order. Danny Valencia has put up 77 hits with 40 runs, 12 homers and 33 RBI. Khris Davis holds 76 hits with 39 runs, 19 homers and 55 RBI. Davis whiffed 0-for-5 on Saturday. Jed Lowrie has hit 76 times with 25 runs and 25 RBI.
The Astros will be countering with left-hander Dallas Keuchel on Sunday. Over his 18 games and 6-9 record this year, Keuchel has put up a 5.02 ERA with a 1.40 WHIP in 113 innings. Keuchel bagged a win against the Mariners his last time out, bagging two runs and five hits in six innings.
Houston has a pretty enviable assortment of hitters at their disposal. Jose Altuve is way out front on 119 hits, 14 homers, 51 RBI and 67 runs. George Springer is chugging along with his 92 hits, 63 runs, 19 homers and 51 RBI. Carlos Correa has put up 84 hits with 45 runs, 14 homers and 55 RBI.
The Athletics are 26-54 in their last 80 games versus a left-handed starter, and 3-7 in their last 10 overall. Oakland is also 1-4 in their last five Sunday games, and 0-6 in their last six game fours of a series.
As for the Astros, they’re 1-9 in their last 10 game fours of a series, and 4-0 in Keuchel’s last four starts. Houston is also 23-6 in Keuchel’s last 29 home starts, and 1-4 in Keuchel’s last five starts with four days’ rest.
I like Keuchel a little better in the pitching matchup right now, so give me the Astros for the win.
