The Kansas City Royals look to head in to the break with a win at Kauffman Stadium against the Seattle Mariners.
The Seattle Mariners are likely competing for a Wild Card although they need a healthy Felix Hernandez to have any success. The Mariners have lost five of six following Saturday’s 5-3 defeat at Kansas City. M’s starter Wade Miley was charged with six runs on ten hits two BB over 5.1 frames to fall to 6-6. Seattle managed eight hits and three walks with Kyle Seager going 2-4 with a homer and three RBI’s while Robinson Cano and Nelson Cruz scored. Mike Montgomery toes the rubber for his first start of the season on Sunday afternoon. Montgomery has made 30 appearances out of the bullpen with a 2-3 record and 2.15 ERA.

The Kansas City Royals have been going nowhere fast and losing Mike Moustakas hasn’t helped. The Royals had lost five of six before knocking off the visiting Mariners on Saturday afternoon. Both the arms and bats came through with KC starter Edinson Volquez giving up all three runs on six hits through six innings to even his record at 6-6. Kansas City amassed 12 hits and walked twice with Salvador Perez going deep and scoring twice while Chestor Cuthbert drove in two runs and scored. Kansas City has yet to name a starting pitcher for Sunday’s match up with the visiting Mariners.
