The St. Louis Cardinals finish off the fist half of the year at Miller Park against the Milwaukee Brewers.
The St. Louis Cardinals have been a bit more streaky then we are accustomed to seeing and third place in the National League Central is the result. The Cardinals had dropped four of five before putting everything together in an 8-1 victory at Milwaukee on Saturday. Cards starter Carlos Martinez was on top of his game with the lone run scored on four hits and four BB with eleven strikeouts over five frames. The Redbirds did their damage on ten hits and seven walks with Tommy Pham and Jhonny Peralta going solo while Aledmys Diaz cracked a three run homer. Veteran Mike Leake toes the rubber against the Brewers for the third time this year. Leake hopes to bounce back from a 5-2 loss to Pittsburgh where he was charged with all five runs on nine hits over six innings

The Milwaukee Brewers would like nothing better then to enter the All Star break with a win over the Cardinals. The Brewers held their own with the Cardinals Saturday before a five run 9th put the game out of reach. Brewers starter Chase Anderson allowed two runs on four hits and four BB through four innings to get the loss before the bullpen imploded with six runs scoring. The Brew Crew were held to four hits and six walks with Kirk Nieuwenhuis knocking in Jonathan Villar with the only run. Junior Guerra ends the first half of the season with his second start versus the Cardinals. Guerra has been outstanding the past two times out with 15.1 frames of scoreless baseball.
The over is 8-1-2 in the Cardinals last 11 Sunday games and the under is 8-2 in their last 10 overall while going 8-2 in their last 10 on grass. The under is 8-2 in Guerra’s last 10 on grass and is 8-2 in Guerra’s last 10 starts overall. St. Louis are 24-9 in the last 33 meetings in Milwaukee and are 47-21 in the last 68 meetings. I like Guerra but I stink at St. Louis games…
