The Line: Oakland Athletics / Toronto Blue Jays --- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Oakland Athletics host the playoff hopeful Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night.
The Toronto Blue Jays might have been unhappy to see the All Star break because e they were red hot and didn’t want to interrupt their momentum. The Blue Jays have won eight of ten after knocking off Detroit 6-1. The Jays have long been known for their ability to hand a bat but early on it was the pitching that carried the team. However, the Toronto offense has been showing signs of erupting and if the arms and bats get on the same page they will be tough to beat in the American League East. Marcus Stroman opposes the Athletics for the second time in his career on Friday night. Stroman comes off of a 4-2 win versus Kansas City with both runs allowed on three hits over eight innings.

The lone goal for the Oakland Athletics is to reach .500 but they are facing a tough climb at 13 games below the break even point. A 2-1 defeat at Houston left the team staring at losses in seven of ten entering the break. Inconsistency on both the mound and at the plate have hurt with four runs considered a solid offensive effort. The Pitching has a few new faces and in my view should continue on through the end of the season and gain that valuable experience. Rich Hill has replaced Sonny Gray as the best pitcher on the team thus far. On the season Hill has gone 9-3 with a 1.09 Whip and 2.25 ERA covering 13 starts and 76 innings.
Toronto are 8-1 in their last 9 overall and are 9-2 in their last 11 Friday games while going 2-6 in Stroman’s last 8 Friday starts. Oakland are 2-6 in their last 8 Friday games and the over is 8-3 in their last 11 Friday games while the Athletics are 3-8 in their last 11 overall. The under is 7-1-1 in the last 9 meetings in Oakland. I like the A’s pitching but not their bats…
